Anyone using a hydraulic clutch with their A833???
So I have this 66 Coronet, 383 auto. I am gonna convert it to a 4 speed. I have the trans, bellhousing, and pedal assembly. I know I can buy all the little Z-bar/bushing/link stuff and weld a bracket on the car for the Z-bar, but I see that McLeod sells a hydraulic release bearing and was wondering if anyone has gone this route in a stock bodied car??? What did you use for a master cylinder? What about the pushrod for it? Where is the master mounted? Any insite is appreciated!

a friend of mine did a Cyclone with a Hydro throw out. He converted a regular mechanical link to a Mcleod set up (I think). Anyway, he had a heck of a time mounting the wilwood master clutch cylinder to his firewall due to the wide 2 bolt mount, and the limited flat space down there. He ended up mounting it once and having it flex so bad he had to pull it and mount it to a rienforced firewall plate, and he still couldnt get the geometry right. It worked OK, but not better than his manual set up, less feel he said. He was using a transplanted motor with headers that interfered with the original linkage. There was always the fear that the bearing would come out of adjustment and pop out of its race. BLeeding was a bitch too. Maybe a bad experience with a good product?

The '90 Plymouth Laser RS Turbo used a real nice hydraulic clutch. The master was small. I doubt that the throughout would fit an 833 but it wouldn't hurt to look.
After driving real heavy clutches in the past, I think that a hydraulic unit would be real nice. |

PRO......how do I get ahold of Keisler? You have any contact info?
Everyone else...........the only problem I can see is matching the fluid displacement of the master cylinder to what is needed for the T/O bearing. If I bottom out the master before the bearing moves enough, the clutch will never fully disengage. We all know how important complete disengagement is when trying to kick the car completely sideways into 3rd gear!!!!!! Bang, screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeech, wwwaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He he, cant wait!! Brad |
