I have a 1957 Plymouth Savoy with what appears to be the original rear end. Unfortunately, the differential housing has a big chunk missing from it (looks like it hit something at high speed). The axle is also bent.
I want to replace it with something that will fit and is durable. I'd prefer a newer rear end/axle so that I can use a more conventional emergency brake set-up (not the transmission lock used originally). What can you guys recommend? Can I use something out of an 80's RWD car (Gran Fury, 5th Ave, etc.)? I do not know a great deal about rear ends. Would I need to trim the axle length? If so, how would I do that? What should I look for in an installation? Thanks! Justin |

On my 59 Savoy I used the rear end out of a 65 fury it is a bolt in and upgraded the rear brakes at at the same time I also replaced the rear leafs with HD's and a extra leaf from ESPO so the 5 degree shim block from the fury was required for the drive shaft line up.
