Question Drive shaft length!

Ok Whats the least amount of length I can get away with! My drive shaft yoke goes in my tranny tail about half way! So i figured about 2.5 inches that the splines meet! Will this be enough? I have a 4.30 suregrip and a 727/360 Duster!

Default shaft length

six; jack the back your car up and put jack stands
under the axle tubes.
Leaving the weight on the springs.
Remove the universal joint straps.
Then slide the drive shaft into the trans as far as
it will go.
Messure the distance the drive shaft has moved
from the yoke ,then subtracket 1" .
This will tell you how much to add to your shaft
to get the proper length.
I know this doesn`t really answer your question.
But the drive shaft is either right or wrong.
However you should Know that mother made more
then one drive shaft yoke for the 727.
There were 2 that Iam aware of the shorter of the 2 is most common.
The exact amount of added length I don`t
recall.
But it is enough to pick out in a crowd.
A trip to the bone yard and a look through the pile
of drive shafts may be helpfull.
Happy trails

My friend, you will need the drive shaft to be the correct length half way is not gunna get it, if the shaft is too short , your gunna get vibration and it will hammer your trans tail shaft and the posiblity of having the drive shaft drop out and pole volt you into the next state, be really good to yourself when it comes to something that takes the stress and torque everytime you hit the gas.
