Default Chrome box/Accel coil

I have a new MP chrome box and the giant Accel coil laying around, and wonder if putting that stuff in my stock 318 truck will create any problems, or, on the other hand, do any good???

Isn't the chrome box a stock replacement as far as hook up goes?

Exclamation Crome Box and Accel Coil?

Nobody is jumping in so I'll run this out.
Good setup for the street. I've never run it but know some who have. Not sure you'll see any real improvement if your truck is running well now. I'm not sure what the plugs set at with the good box and coil but I assume about 45. You might get better mileage, good towing and better performance in bad weather.

The hook-up is the same.

Thank you, Tarrbabe, I guess I'll give her a try.

By the way - any chance that combo would work on a '79 CJ-7 with the 258 inch six??

Hey Doug,
Chrome box shuldn't really show you better performance that you'll notice right off. It will be a bit more consistant and hit higher RPM's for you. That Accel will help a bit to run a slightly hotter plug. I run the stock box, Accel Super Coil, Accel 8mm under header wires from a 68-72 Chibbille, and AP66 plugs at .036. Works well for me with the MP dist. I think you'll see more from a re-curve kit than the box....

Thanks, Greg. The engine is old and burning oil - I thought maybe this setup with a one heat range hotter plug might help. What do you guys think.

By the way, it's good to hear from you!

It's current in my car now. The coil is a S/S accell. Yellow in color, stock looking. The chrome box and MoPar wires. (Penterstar ends.)
No problems with it. Lites the fire beyond 6600.

At 6600 on this engine, the fire would be burning oil from the engine explosion!!

I had the orange box with the Accel Super Coil on a stock 440 and it worked great. Always started instantly! I think your supposed to use the lessor resistor ballast for the chrome box, tho. But thats the only difference I know of.

Could you explain what you said about the resistor. I think I only have one set of termiinals on it. Also, I got the box new from a friend, with no extra parts or installation instructions, so anything you can do to keep me from frying all my ignition stuff would be greatly appreciated!!!

Default Ballast Resistor

Big book says to use Ballast Resistor 5206436 or Accel 150001. Thes are .70HM and .80HM. Not sure what the HM stands for.

I have the chrome box, accel super coil and Taylor Spirp-pro wires in a 318 and run nice to 6700. The spark seems an electrical welding

Default Re:Ballast resistor

Sorry, I should have been a little more specific. Just went out and dug out my box. I bought a Chrome box and ballast resistor from Mancini. Its a MP piece(read: Made in Mexico) Part# for the ballast resistor is P2444641. On the part itself it says .25 ohms 10% and then the part number. I dont know what HM stands for either. Its a 2 prong like the one for the orange box but has a lower resistance value.Hope this clears things up a little for you. I dont know if it would hurt to run the one you have but I'd probably do what Ma says to be on the safe side.
