Intake port matching
Ok so I finally got my heads port matched to the LD4B intake I got, but I have one more question about intake gaskets.
Now can I use a gasket with openings larger than those on my intake and heads, or must I get one with smaller ports and open them up to match??? I'm confused as to whether larger openings will create a speed bump for the intake air or not? Any help appreciated. |

Use the larger one without fear. Citting up the smaller one is more of a hassle you need not go through.
The larger opening will not effect the air flow. It's not in the way. |

rumble is right, the larger port sizes wont hurt a bit, it would be a LOT worse if they were smaller than the ports in the head!
A better way, would have been to get the gaskets, and gasket match the head. Opening up the intake ports of the head to about .030 of the gasket size, then do a gasket match to the intake. Although, all that work is only needed when building a really high horsepower engine. Roger |

One other thing-if you use silicon sealant around the gasket-use it VERY sparingly. If any amount squeezes out from the gasket/intake port that stuff will stay out there thereby disrupting your intake flow.

sanborn is right there too!
I only like to use silicone around the water areas and use gasketcinch around the ports since you just brush that onto the head and gasket, let dry and stick them together. After that you put a little bit of grease on the gasket around the intake ports and use four bolts to bolt up the intake and let it sit an hour. Take the manifold carfully off and then scribe the grease mark on the manifold to gasket match the manifold to the gasket. |
