Default Carb size?

I have a 600 cfm Edlebrock on my stock 383. Is this carb too big, too small, or just about right? Just want to be sure I'm going the right way w/ future mods.

For the 383 I would treat it like I do my 440, run a 750cfm or larger, better to have the additional flow when needed than not. You'll find that it is NOT too much carb for the 383 and mileage won't be affected much, of course if mileage was your concern I'm sure you would have dumped that 383 for a 318. Bob

600 CFM may be Ok for a stock 383, but it is on the small side.
With a bit of tuning you should be able to get a 750 CFM vacuum secondary carb to run better and give a bit more power.

Definately go with the 750 vac secondary. A 383 can use it without a problem.

Your 600 is just making it for street use. Don't expect much after the mid range mph, say 80 mph and up. It will be "sucking wind." The other responses are correct, 750 cfm with vacume secondaries. You didn't say what manifold you are using. A good dual plane will give you good responses in all ranges. If you are strictly race, best ask another question. You'll be guaranteed at least 100 responses. Then you can do what you want.

Hi
You all agree in the upgrade of the carb from 600-650 to 750 vac sec....
But do he / I / we who go with 383 gain any power and torque advantige if still running with original cast iron intake?
Is the change of carb itself any feelable upgrade?
I will by a edelbrok performer RPM high dual intake and change both at a time!
Whats the suggest from you pro,s out there,,,is it any use to change just the carb?
Is the RPM the best choise for 383 and street use if you still wanna keep all the good force at low and middle and although add some extra at the top?

PS I also read the article in mopar muscle,,,,,,,455Hp in a moderate tuned up BB,,,,man thats my motor .(When I can pay for the TTI:s)
Best regards Olle B

I would definately go with the 750 cfm carb. I have heard of nothing but good reports about the Edelbrock Performer RPM intake. Too bad I bought the old 440 Performer. When I had my engine rebuilt in 98, there was another 440 in the shop ahead of mine, it made over 500 H.P. with the .509 cam and Performer RPM setup. Don't forget a good set of headers. Drive Fast.

Even on the stock intake, you will notice a difference, especially at the top end. The performer RPM isn't a bad choice. I ran a TORKER on my 383, she had gobbs of power, even with the 2 bbl cam.
