Question dart engines

alright ya so we know there are 2 slant six engines, the 225 and the 170. i've got a 63 dart which may or may not have an original engine. Its toast. in order to rebuild it I must find out if it has a 225 or a 170 slant six. How or where can i find this out?

your easiest approach would be to get the vid #'s and have them ran or on your drivers side quarter ther is a litle code plate which will tell you the size of your engine and the your set

The 5th digit of your VIN will have a letter A or B. A is 170 and B is 225. This is assuming the orginal motor is in the car. Double check with Doctor Dodge's info.

the number is located on the top right side of the cylinder block toward the front, 170 198 225 is stamped along the ledge just below the head. The date that the engine was built and over size and under size parts information is also located next to the engine number. This came out of a book i have. I haven't seen them on mine cause of heavy grease. Good luck

Look at the by-pass hose from the water pump to the head. If it's about 2" long it's a 170. If it's closer to 4" long it's a 198-225.
