Studs or Bolts??
I'm wondering which is better.. To use the bolts supplied with my headers or to leave the studs in place and continue using them.. Or is it really a matter of personal preference?

Skyhawg.....I like to use studs on the outside two holes to provide something to hang the headers on , while I start the header bolts, not to mention stopping the coolant flow when working on the headers. This works for me. If you have the room, a full compliment of studs are nice....but hard to work with in a tight engine compartment.

Bolts or Studs?
I agree about the end holes but have had to use only the front in tight situations. One stud is as good as an extra set of hands.

studs
Use them if at all possable.
It is not the two out side studs that go into the water jacket of the heads ,but the 2 inside from them. Useing the studs will save you a lot of head aches. As the studs are known for snaping off just getting the old manifolds off. Never mind trieing to remove them. However you will find that the second stud back from the front on both sides will be to long to tighten the flang down. Due to the sharp bend in the first tube of the headers. Installation tip:: The nuts that are used are 3/8 fine thread, see if you can find a slim one. Put the nut on that stud first and turn it down as far as possable. Without bending the flang or damageing the tube. Next cut off the extra portion of the stud that sticks out past the nut,and then turn the nut down again. Repeat this step as many times as needed to get the right length. I realize this seems like doing it the hard way. But the allturnative to this is a very short bolt that will be a persistant pain in the ,,, . Because there won`t be a good seal for the cooling system around the threads. As I said this seems like the hard way, but it will pay off down the road. It worked well on mine and if I had to do it again . I would do it the same way. Hope it help Dan |

Thanks... yes even int he directions supplied by TTI, they mention that if studs are used the second oone back will have to be shortened..
I guess I will give the studs a chance... Jim |

I USE STUDS ALSO AND CHANGED THEM ALL TO STAINLESS COURSE THREAD AND USE A SERRATED STAINLESS FLANGE NUT THAT WILL NOT BACK OFF.ALL SORTS OF COOL HARDWARE CAN BE GOT AT MCMASTER.COM.
