i dont know much, but i will try.
the rear you should have right now is a 7 1/4. it most likely wont hold up to any 318. if youre not running much power, like less than 400ft/lb torque, an 8 1/4 should work for you. you can get one from a 1973-1976 a-body that will be a direct swap except for the driveshaft. im guessing you will either have to buy a new one, or get yours shortened. i dont know which one. i would imagine the best transmission for you would be a rebuilt a-904 automatic. that would be the cheapeast and easiest way to go if you already have an automatic. if you do, you already have a 904. but it will only bolt up to a 6 cylinder, so you have to go find one with a v8 bolt pattern. if you have a manual right now, look for an a-833 |
