Help carb problems?

I have a pretty nasty bog right of idle with and without a load on the motor. Its bad enough to stall the car out if you mash the gas.It actually started last year when I detailed the motor. The only changes I made to it then was a fresh set of plugs and replaced my fuel press regulator with a Edelbrock regulatore kit. This year the car has seen some more changes bigger exhaust differant length headers , new timimg chain. But still has the nasty bog. were should I start looking. I cant find any vacume leakse so I'm pretty sure its not that.

What's your intial or idle timing
*try it at about 20 degrees and see if the bog goes away.

Check you accelerator pumps for adjustment
*many times I've seen the adjustment screws backed off and you have to get 20% into the throttle before any fuel get injected.

What carb, intake and ignition are you running?

Cam?

Switch to lobster....

Why do you have a fuel pressure regulator?
A bog can mean either too little or too much fuel on demand, usually too little if you're not starving for fuel from a low or stuck float.

the carb mechanism that deals with this issue is the accelerator pump. Either it isn't shooting enough fuel when you mash it, or you have a double pumper and the secondary pump is not set right.

you also must make sure that your idle and off idle settings are not too lean to begin with.

Alternativley., you fuel pressure may be so high that when you mash it you are flooding the carb, although I have a feeling that it's too little, not too much, fuel.

Its a holley 850 double pumper intake is a edelbrock torker (origanal torker not the torker 2)Ign is a m.p. dist no vac. adv. msd coil , 6-a, and 8.5mm wires. The cam is a isky 292mega cam. The car had excelleant throttle response and would melt the tires from a 25mph roll in sec gear last year.

I have the fuel reg because I'm running a holley blue pump.

4 corner 2 corner doesn't matter the theory is the same.

The power valve selection instructions are in Part 2

I'll bet the power valve is blown.....just a sneaky suspicion....

Yes! now your talking logic...by the time you buy the kit and have it professionally rebuilt you could almost own a real carb

In reviewing your spec's I would reccommend the 750 VS (Vacuum secondary) This carb easily wet flows almost 900 CFM while maintaining fuel velocity. Your 850 probably wet flows at at way less as Holley uses a dry flow test, and because of the venturi size you lose way to much velocity which is critical in the atomization of the fuel, especially at low RPM.

If you want to go with a more race type carb the 750 Race Demon with Mechanical secondarys would do the trick.

Because this carb flows so much more than even your 850 Holley you'll need to be sure your fuel delivery system is up to the task.

-10 from the tank to the filter, -10 from the filter to the pump, -08 from the pump to the regulator and -06 to each end of the carb.

The pump will have to be a 200+ GPH minimun and the filter should have the ability to flow at least 25% more than that.

If this is a strip car and the mechanical secondary system is the route your looking at then the BG 280 pump is for you. It available as a kit which includes absolutely everything you'll need to install your system, just cut the SS lines to length and turn the key.

If this is a street driven vehicle then you'll need to wait another 45 days (Oct 1st) for a news release coming from BG that will solve your problem, sorry I can't give you any more info at this time, but I guarrantee you this will revolutionize the street fuel pump industry.

If you need a price on a carb I have the smokin' brother-in-law deal and can have it drop shipped to your door, most carbs are available for immediate delivery. If you want us to jet it and flow it to your engine specs we'll need a couple of days to run it through the flow shop. Once you get it just adjust the 4 corners to your engine and head for the track.

Rule of thumb on the "bog". Usually, not always, when the culprit is lean the engine will spit back at you (from the carb) when the loud pedal is tromped and when rich it just says blaaah.
