Stupid Question???
How can all you guys run 10-1 or 10-5 compression on the street and get away with it?
Maybe I'm stupid but I don't understand it with the gas that I see everywhere. |

10;1 isn`t much. If you use 92 or better it shouldn`t be a problem. Unless your timming is to far advanced. Or your mixure is not right. Check into it and see what you come up with. Hope it helps |

Camshaft has a lot to do with it.
More radical cams have less time when both valves are closed. Therefore they need higher compression ratios to bring the compression up to a reasonable level. The actual compression pressure of such an engine, when running, is the same as an engine with a lower compression ratio , with a less radical cam. There's hardly a fuel around that a 13:1 engine would run on with a stock cam. With a more radical cam, the fuel requirements are less. That's also why smog engines don't respond well to big cam changes. The effective compression ratio, get's even lower(than it's already pathetic 7.5 or 8.0)when the more radicla cam is installed. |
