My motorhome is the subject of my performance mods. 1978 440-3, stock with Heddman Elite Headers, I have a mopar purple cam, lifters, locks and retainers to instal yet. I have looked real hard at the big old TQ, I have access to an Edelbrock 750, a relative just took off his small block chev, he went with B.G. 650 street demon, he may go bigger yet. Love to try a B.G. on the old torpedo home.
BTW, 440 has 36,000 miles so I am looking at the porting and an intake as well. A good friend of mine, and former 440 GTX guy for 20+ years has recomended a single plane intake for these. Says dual plane is not the best performance, I kind of agree, I go 6,000+ miles a year for the last 2 years, and I am at 2750 RPM almost all the time the engine is on. Do you think a Street Dominater or TorkerII would be worth while here? |

That's a very interesting project....let me run the numbers by the people at BG and see what they say...I may just throw one on the "Tug" and see how it does....
I think you would want to stay with a dual plane manifold otherwise your bottom end will suck... I'll keep you posted.. |

The cam I have is M.P. P4286675, Duration is 260/260, @0.050" is 221/221, overlap is 34, centerline is 113, lift is 430/430.
That info from BG would be very helpful, I talk to a ton of R.V. people who turfed the big TQ for a 600 Eddy and saw a major step in fuel economy as well as a claimed increase in tourque. Last motorhome I had got a Carter 625 competition, it was a 360 and ran real well, the Carter was actually a little too much for it. I was thinking Carter again here, till I saw my brother in law with his B.G. I'm thinking square carb with square intake. Loss on the bottom due to intake is a concern, but it is an all tourque engine that does 90% of business on the highway. |
