Bypass hose blowing out
OK guys, got a serious question;
Upon winding the 318 up 5500-6000 rpm, I've had 2 brand new water pump-to-manifold bypass hoses literally explode under the water pressure and spew coolant all over EVERYTHING (in the past week). This is a very annoying problem as I've never had it happen on other mopar small blocks. Thermostat is 190 deg on an M1 intake and water pump is stock. Do I need a higher quality hose than the parts store replacement??? Could water pressure be too high due to higher temp t-stat and the pump aggrevates the problem at high rpm? Kind of baffling and any help is appreciated! TD |

Sounds like the thermostat is not opening, or is just plain stuck. I would put in a 160 degree and try it again. Those little hoses could get expensive.

Yah, you have a restriction somewhere, take out the t-stat and go for a short drive and see if the same thing happens.

Thanks guys,
I'll try that tonite and let you know. Kinda weird cuz t-stat was new at the end of last year. It did sit without water for the good part of 6 months though. That may be it. Thanks |
