content Milodon line oiling...

Hi all knowing Mopar nuts...I just installed a Milodon 2 line oiling system on my moder...

I had it running yesterday, and came home tonight to play some, and It took 10/15 secs of cranking to see oil pressure on the gauge(this is just cranking, not running yet)...It never showed oil pressure before while cranking, so I dont know if its normal...Is it ok to crank it this long before I see pressure and flip the ignition switch??....it only does it sitting overnite...Input??..

I do have a System 1 filter, although it has the anti drainback valve, it may have emptied some...

My single line system does the same thing after sitting overnite, CD. Definitely want to use a good drainback filter, so there's some oil in the pump. Otherwise it can be a SERIOUS problem. I usually crank mine for about ten sec and hit the ign whether is shows pressure or not. It gets right up there as soon as she fires.

Mine too looses its prime, after notdriving for a while have to crank it for about 20 seconds before the gauge shows pressure, then I put the pumps on and fire the engine. I have had this external system for two years with a Fram HP 1, and a couple of weeks propably lost a connecting rod bearing. Have not opened the engine yet, so can't rally say if the loss of the prime was the reason or some other thing.

CD, are external lines just for race only moders?? I hope you post what finally works for you. I read another post where a guy put a dry sump system on a street car and fried the bearings at idle. He just wanted the slammed look but fired his moder in the process! Bummer!

10-sec, You gotta fast car! But I feel pressure to do the drug! My moder is made for it but I cant hook Now(!)so I dont need more power yet. But all the Chebbie guys I know have 350s on the spray and can beat me. Sooo, unless I wanna keep listening to ther crap, I'll have to get a bottle, too!

magnum....are those chebbies that beat you running motor only?? i doubt it!!!!
my last race i ran a 427 small block(unreal) chevy and had him by almost a full two car lenghts, they came back the next night and wanted to spray me(2 plate systems) and give me a 2 and the leave spot!! i said ill put spray on and give him 4 cars...that was a big no from him!!!
bottom line nos is for these chevy guys that dont have horsepower!!! ill take a 10's car on motor over a 9's car on spray anyday!!!
.
how did your car go today?? whats you combo if you dont mind?

10-sec, Well, the one guy said his bottle was empty and asked for the leave. I had just beat two Camaros so gave him a car. The bugger sprayed me right out of the hole and I could'nt catch him! Both these guys have 350 and tubbed S-10s and run 11s and 10s on the bottle.

My car is "in the pits" right now as I convert to all MSD system. My track times are'nt too great as I'm still getting the car sorted out, read: No traction! 72 Challenger 440 w/B1-BS heads, HughesHEV5056 solid, Ross 10 to 1, 1050 Dominator/Team-G. Trans is race built, JW rev.man w/Coan 3500 10". Rear: Richmond 4.10 in 8 3/4 489 sure-grip. Springs are all stock w/air shocks(from previous owner

Hoosier 28 x 11.5 QTP on Weld 15x8 Draglites. M/T frontrunners on 15x4 dragltes. Runs low 12s @ 115+ right now.

Yeah, I take comfort in the fact that I know these guys live in fear of the day I hook up and maybe get NOS, too! hehe

I should add that I have a 7qt Milodon pan w/1/2" pick-up and Melling pump.

Mine has gone a best of 9.88#133 in the 1/4 in cooler air..I expect to be in the 9.70's this year when it cools off..I just went 9.96 @ 133 at Moroso this past Sunday...Temp was 93 in the shade, and Humidity was 60% and baro was 30.05 .

It has gone 9.54 getting out at 1000' mark...5.90's 1/8 mile...motor is mild, Footbrake only.

I expect to be going 8.90 or 9.00 by December On the bottle...thats good enough for now..

Not me...Ill take a small shot of NOS and be running low 9's or maybe High 8's all day, and not even have to open the hood...I only run a 175 shot, which is small..I can go 400 if I want to..

CD, I think my car weighs about 1000 lbs more than yours! Dang it! I need to go on a diet--I mean my car--er,uh both of us, that is!

Hey, can you reveal how you solved the drain back problem, etc.?? I would lke to go to external if its suitable for a street/strip car like I have?

btw, good luck on assault on the 8s, also, Have you considered gettin a 'chute??--you may need it!!

Yeah...If I hit 150, will need one..we have nice long tracks, and I have nice new brakes, lol..

IT is pretty light, and that saves alot of wear/breakage...it weighs about 3100 with me in it all ready to go, so its not super light...

The best way to solve the drain back deal is an accumulator...this along with a elecrically operated switch valve will load the oiling system before starting...

I think I actually kept the RPM too low..I started it up over the weekend, and rapped it up quick, and it came right up....no real worries with Mobil 1.

Like I said, I have used a FRAM HP 1 filter. Previously with the internal system I have had no problem with them but I have heard a lot of bad talk about them. Which filter would you recommend? I would like not to use an accumulator in my "sleeper" since the engine compartment room is already pretty limited.

There's nothing wrong with the Fram HP1 as long as they are changed OFTEN-no more than 500mi. street driving. The media is very fine and plugs quickly; there's very little that gets past it. It's the regular Frams you want to stay away from-the PH series. Very often the drainback feature on these doesn't work.

I figure that since I loose the prime I have problems with the drain back valving of the filter. But I have not opened the engine yet, so I don't know what caused the bearing problem, there may be other reasons too than the lack of lubrication in the start up.
