Any information would be great!! My 44 Dodge 2 ton truck has a manual 4 speed transmission. Down gearing is next to impossible, even when double clutching. Does anyone know of a 4 speed transmission with synchomesh that would fit this truck? I don't suppose a 5 speed with synchromesh exits???? Thanks Alan |

You may be able to fit one from a M31 powerwagon. It would have a syncro on top two gears. I say may because until I pull the engine in my '49 and measure the bell housing I wont know for sure. I have been working with Bob Stahl at Vetearn Vehicles (Powerwagon parts dealer) on this and he has forwarded the deminisions. Also another potential problem area is the parking brake. I am in the process of building a new 230 for the truck and will hopefully have some answers when I swap engines. Yours being a 2T ( and a '44)may be a whole different set of problems. One hint on downshifting the crashbox: don't try the downshift until you start to lug a bit, double clutch and bring up the revs. WIth a little pratice you will hit it every time.

about your two ton: I under stand from the
vintage power wagon dealer in Iowa, you can put a 420 behind a flat six of you vintage by elongating one of the holes (thre are right) not sure about the shaft. Les |
