Question just wondering...

What do you guys(and gals ) think of Mopars new HEMI? Can it compete with Chevy's LS1? I can only hope it does myself, but with the onslaught of performance cars coming out GTO, 350z, even one from caddy!! Do you think Mopar is bringing a knife to a gun fight? Your thoughts?........ just trying to liven up this place!!

It depends on how you define compete. Mopars can't even compete at my local circle track cause class rules limit engine size to a .030 over 350, no destroking allowed. That means 360s are outlawed, and 340 blocks are just too rare and expensive these days. I'm sure that if this engine is a threat to the bowtie boys, rules will be written for it as well.
But on the street with no rulebook handicapping, I think running a Mopar is like bring a machine gun to a knife fight!

From what I hear the new hemi makes the new hd haul some a@@ so theres no doubt in my mind its gonna only get stronger, all we need to do is convince mother mopar to put it in a dakota or... the new rear wheel drive platform that is going to replace the LH. Thats my opinion!

Convince??? Why?? They have already slated it to go into the Dakota, in the 2004 model year. The new rwd platform has also been slated to get the aluminum version of the 5.7l Hemi. There is no need to convince them to do this, as it has already been planned.

Not to rain on your parade ehostler, but we have seen a lot of things "slated" by DC in the last few years. I only believe it when I see it now

I work at a Dodge Dealer and we have gotten 2 of the Hemi trucks in so far. They will do a nice burnout. Word is it will get larger to around a 6.0 and put in a RWD car but I heard it will be a 4 door but not sure. It has 16 plugs (2 per cyl) and also has electronic throttle control which is basically fly by wire. Or the throttle cable does not work the throttle body as it goes to the sensors and the PCM actually drives an electric motor that works the throttle. Ron

You are joking right, no cable? That sounds like a problem waiting to happen.

No joking. It actually has a cable but it goes to the sensors on the electronic throttle body and does not move the throttle as the PCM reads the sensors and drives an electric motor that moves the throttle. Ron

That's correct, it's a drive by wire system. It leaves potential for possible problems, however it's not a new untried concept. It also allows more control of the fuel management system.

I personally think Mother Mopar is sick of being last when it comes to street vehicles.I think being bought by Damler was a good thing in some ways, they have always raced and have had a few Mid to High end sport type cars.I think the germans are going to let Dodge loose when it comes to building, and selling performance cars.Look for good things in the next few years.I also agree with the machine gun to a knife fight comment.

Thumbs up Throttle by wire

Your'e right , the "throttle by wire" concept is not new. I work for a city bus company and all of our busses are "wired". We have very few problems with this setup and our wires run almost 40 feet from the front of the bus back to the engine. The older systems run kind of like a rheostat , whereas the newer systems are computer controlled . It makes for a faster response time and a more controlled speed. If this new hemi is even half the engine its granddaddy was it will be one kick@$$ engine.
