Vipers
I don't know whats going on out here in Utah concerning vipers. I've made it out to the track almost every weekend this summer and I am SO dissapointed in viper performance. The FASTEST viper I saw was a 12.9 Now correct me if I'm wrong but that should've been the SLOWEST time i saw. Now I don't know if it's driver error or what but the average time i saw was high 13's and I even saw a couple hit 14's. Now based on the power that these cars produce they should be running way faster. From what I've seen though it's a whole lot of money dumped into nothing. Now I'm not doggin on dodge but by definition ( alot of money on looks, cuz the viper does have looks )and the times that I saw all summer A viper is just an overpriced rice mobile just my .02 I was extremely dissapointed

I agree. I've always loved the car but I've seen some crappy times with 'em.
Looks like they need to hire a new driver |

It's not the car guys... attribute those times to either high altitude or bad drivers.
Vipers traditionally can run low 12's without a problem. I have friends that run consistant 11.7's on a very well prepared track in bone stock Vipers with Michelin MXX3's. His best is an 11.58. I've heard Vipers called lots of things, but ricer is not one of them. Personally, I'm a guy that prefers driving on road racing venues. Brad |

Mike Brunton was turning 11.7's on a well prepped track. His best is 11.58 in a bone stock Viper running street tires. There are dozens of guys with bolt-on crap that can't turn these kinds of times. Driver skill makes a big difference in the Viper world.

here is an article when popular mechanics recorded this stock 1998 viper at 11.89@118.88mph. its not the car, it just very hard to controll all that power without spinning the wheels, traction is the key to getting better 1/4 time in a viper. its got so much power that ive seen people spin the tired shifting to 4th gear, and i wouldnt be surprised if its done the same in 5th gear. all it really needs is a good driver who understands the phisics into controlling the gobs of power that come out, after you master that you will be able to get very low numbers. the fastest n/a TRUE viper right now was i think 9.1, somewhere around there, they are getting VERY close to the 8's with out using nos. the 9 second vipers are obviously not bone stock, if some of you are pondering...

The Viper's torque easily overpowers its rear tires, which is why the driver (and experience) has so much to do with getting decent times. More power is not always the answer.
