Question tranny kick down

Hey question on automatic tranny's. This is my first auto, they have always scared the heck out of me in performance applications. I'm running a bone stock 71 Satellite w/318 backed up by the stock auto and sure grip rear. What is the best kick down adjust for this set up. Its a daily driver, but I'm all about a hard kick down as long is is'nt going to scatter tranny guts all over the highway. The car is a bit slow on the kick down even for a two barrel carb and I wanted to check out what a good setting would be from the experts before I have to spring for a burnt up tranny. The more info the better like I said I'm automatic tranny stupid but realy wanting to have some tranny 101. Thanks.

Default kick down linkage adjustment

The way I perfer to adjust the kickdown .
Is simply to adjust it so when the trotle is wide open the
kick down linkage is pressed as far back as it will go.
It may require some minor adjustment after that to suit your preferance.
But it will be close.

That is also the correct way to adjust the kickdown. Anything less than that will cause premature wear on the bands.

Thanks for the help, I would hate to screw up my tranny, it was rebuilt just before I bought the car.

put carb to WOT, and adjust kickdown full ALMOST full travel. You only want it to go 98% back so your not slamming the kickdown. Without having the kickdown adjusted properly, your transmission will not get the proper corresponding increase in pressure for higher rpm engine speeds, causing slippage and dealth.
