Confused Attn: RogerH More EB help Please

Roger,

My boxes have the 6018# but 6091 is cast into my heads. I have "Pop-up" pistons. How much difference will the 4cc's make in my compression ratio and is there an advantage to the 6018's with my pistons. I hate returning stuff and aside from the incorrect part # cast into the heads they look really sweet! I'd like to avoid a return.

Thanks!

Greg

...so I take it that the porting and finish work on the iron heads didn't go so well????

You need to get Rogers opinion here before you bolt those heads on...not being a BB expert all I know about the EB Al heads is the quench zone and clearance problems are critical.

gsmopar.....

Since the difference between the 6091/6092 and the 6014/6018 heads is just a machining, they are from the same casting, so it should have the 6091 cast on the head.

It should be really easy to check whether you have the extra machining for the 6018. If you have a .100" deep cut the size of the cylinder bore, then you have the right heads. If you don't have that cut, you most likely need it if your pistons will be coming out of the deck, the last thing you want is to have your pistons slapping the head.

Check for the 4" something diameter cut around each chamber, that's a .100" deep. If you do, then you are set! If not, let me know and we will have to get that taken care of.

Yep, I've got the cut. No returns for me! The instructions also said the exhaust bolts are dry. Does that mean they don't protrude into the water jackets? If that's true you guys should put that in the advertisements! I hate pulling headers and getting drenched in coolant!

Thanks again!!!

I believe on a cylinder head, we usually put bosses in to make sure the exhaust doesn't break into the water jacket. I don't have any of the instruction sheets here, I am just wondering if it is talking about that or whether or not to put any lube on them when installing them. I will have to dig up an instruction sheet and have a looksee!

The exhaust bolt holes should not break through into the water jacket. No sealant is needed, and I think they have helicoils in there too.

That is totally sweet!!! You guys should advertise that information! I remember my first RB rebuild. I though I had a cracked head because the darn thing was spewing steam out one side of my exhaust. The local mopar shop (6-pack performance) laughed at me and told me to put RTV on my header bolts.

I'm waiting for a oil pan from Summit (should be here this weekend), and the engine will hopefully be back together and in the car by Saturday.

Thanks for all of your help!

Greg
