Default 8 3/4 to spool or not to spool

Anybody drive an A-body on the street with an 8 3/4 rear and a spool or mini spool? How bad or.......... not a good idea is it? The car is a 70 dart with a stock, rebuilt 440/727 from a 67 GTX and is not going to be a daily driver. Thanks, JWH

Bottom line. Spools are for racing. If your not racing the car, don't bother. Suregrip it for street use even if it's a very limited. They work great.
Spools bounce and cherp the tires around turns. Even small ones. If this is what you can live with.....go right ahead.

I've heard of people breaking axles using spools on the street. If you really don't want to use a sure grip, try a locker instead.

The spool will actually lock the two axles together. When you turn, you need one to go at a different speed than the other, spool is a BAD idea for the street. Sure-Grip is the way to go to give you the best of both. Good Luck!!

Everyone knows the trouble with chirping tires around turns, and strange wear patterns and stuff but there's something else to think about.

I was at a car show the other day when a buddy of mine pulled up with a 70 Firebird with a spool. The car show as setup and ran pretty crappy, so several people had to do a U turn between narrow rows of cars to find a spot. The Firebird tried to do a U turn for about 15 minutes, and at times looked like it wanted to rip the $400 pair of MT Sportsman Pros right off the rims. A spool will also cut down your turning radius considerably, too.

So, I guess I'd say no...
