Question 915 heads

I'm running a 440 with 915 heads in a flat bottom boat. It has pop up pistons, Large solid cam (.280@.050 620lift) can't find spec sheet right now, tunnel ram w/600 holleys.

My question is I'm told they only come with 2.08/1.81 valves and next I hear 2.14/1.81 valves. What is the true valve size?

2nd what would be the best modification to the heads? And how much can they be ported?

Sorry but I need to spank a little chevy ass in our boating group.

Question Valve Size?

The 440s from 68 and up came with 2.08" intake and 1.74" exhaust valves. Hughesengines mentions how much different heads can be ported on their website. 2.14" and 1.81" valves are aftermarket valves.

Quick Claims Adjuster!!!

Do you have to run stock type iron heads? If not I'd get the Indy iron heads or the Mopar Performance stage 5's. If you can run aluminum all the better, much more selection out there. You could also try to 750's. MP has the 2.14/1.81 valves available in SS. But no, no stock head except the Max Wedge came with the larger valves. Maxes had a 1.88 exhaust valve, useless ina stock type head. The Stage 5's however can be had with the large valves.

Go kick alot of chevy tail.

The STOCK valve sizes in 1967 were 2.08 and 1.74, but oversize valves COULD be in them?!?

also, if the heads came off a non TNT/magnum engine, the exhaust valves will be the smaller 1.60's as opposed to the 1.74's

Cool Heads

So if I add the bigger valves and port them it should give me a significant increase?

I guess I could buy a set of aluminum heads or MP cast heads but would like to see what I can get out of the 915's. As for as fuel and timing I run 36 degrees with 110 octane gas

Question Rockers

Whats the deal with the 1.6 rocker vs the 1.5.... I know the lift would be greater but would there be another performance gain?

ps sorry for all the questions but I was previously a ford person for the other boat.

Most were 2.08" intake and 1.60" on the exhaust

As mentioned, only tntn models had the bigger exhaust valves, and even then only tnt 440's not 383 "comando" or whatever.
