anyone out there ever install coilover shocks on thier mopar
I was checking out some coilover shocks and tubular upper control arms for the ol' ladys duster, and was wondering what other peoples experience with them. I would'nt mind losing the torsion bars for some header clearance, but hows the handling affected? Doesn't it put alot of stress on the inner fender wells?

72,
I think that you have to reinforce the inner fender wells to do this. As they are, they are not strong enough to sustain the lateral forces placed on the car while it is in motion with out the torsion bars. I know of several people that have the upper arms and love them, but I haven't met anyone that has put coil overs on their stock MoPar...besides the torsion bar setup is one of the better setups out there. I don't think that you can adjust hide height with coil over shocks. I dunno why mess with a good thing. |

Great idea
I did a '74 Duster with coil overs on all 4 corners. It's a great idea. They will ride and handle much smoother and yes, you can adjust the ride hight. No, you don't have to reinforce the fenderwells. THEY DON'T MOUNT ON THEM ANYWAY.
Go to magnumforce.com. They have a complete bolt in set up with a tube k frame that takes about 100 lbs. off the front. I used it all except there coil overs. I choice to use a diffrent brand and mount position on the front of mine, but I use mine to drag race with. I have a ladder bar set up in the rear with coil overs. All this really drops the weight and makes it handle better. I have a big block in mine and use a one piece tilt fiberglass nose, fiber doors, fiber deck lid ,and fiber bumpers. If you use a small block this will really speed and fuel economy too by getting all the weight off of it. Just don't use the fiber doors on the street for safety sakes. I used to drive one on the street all fiber and coils and it was great, handled good, and got great millage when you don't put your foot in it. Hope this helps. |

Magnum force has the kit also for the rack and pinion steering. That has to be a nice upgrade. Could you imagine not having any play in your steering? the whole kit is $3500, maybe one of these days( just not tomorrow, or the next for hundred days.)

Can you say no bumpsteer?
Yeah with the magnum force kit it almost eliminates all the bump steer that you find in the stock set up. That's why these cars were no good for circle track racing, but great for drags.

A couple of issues back in Mopar Muscle, a guy had a 68 Charger with a V-10 Viper crate motor and drivetrain along with a 4 corner coil over setup. The coil-overs were not a big deal as far as installation, but he said that the handling and launches were awsome. I'll be doing something similar in the future with that setup as well. Will definitly keep everyone posted on my progress. You guys have a good one.

Yea I say that. Car was silver I believe. Had those 16" or 17" low profile tires on it too. Sharp ride. Glad I didn't have to help shoe horn that engine in there.

DWC, is a Viper crate motor any wider than a 440 or HEMI? Seems like it would be longer but narrower. Oh well, he had someone install all that stuff anyway. Must be nice.

I don't think the v -10 is as wide as the 440 0r hemi. Ive seen all three and rode with them in cars that belong to friends of or club. I've never seen them side by side though.
I've been looking in the mopar parts book getting ideas for my next race engine. The show a bare v-10 block and it looks super narrow in the pic. |

That Charger also had the firewall moved in 3 inches. The motor fits width wise, but is long. He also had complete viper suspension on that Charger if I remember right. Thus the viper rims. The whole underside was stripped an painted, all stainless exhaust, polished driveshaft, heheh you get the picture.
