Question Sanborn, to bush or not to bush adj. rock arms?

Mopar shows 1.5 and 1.6 bushed and non bushed stock type adjustable rockers. With the bushed it's a must to run banana grove shafts. Is there any advantage to use the bushed ones? How would it effect valve train motion if any?

I think the bushing only helps to maintain rocker arm life. And, if you use them on a race engine, probably are not necessary.

There is a problem with the nodular iron rockers. Based on my experience with Mopar iron rockers(W2) of about 25 years ago, the actual ratios are all over the map. I seem to recall ratios varying between 1.39 to 1.52 for what was supposed to be a 1.50 rocker. I know we went through about three sets carefully measuring and sorting them into matched sets. I made a jig and rebored the worst set to correct them-It is a pain in the backside. Unless your rules require stock rockers, I would buy a good set of aftermarket roller rockers.

Don't feel bad, GM and Ford has the same problem.

I haven't used the Mopar rockers, but like sanborn mentioned many shops bore the rockers out and install bushings to correct the rocker ratios.

My machinist, who's been doing hiperformance stuff forever, agrees with Mopar, that it adds longevity to the shafts and rocker arm. Kind of like using foating wristpins in a rever.

Thanks guys. I new the stock rockers were bad about not having the correct ratio. I would think that a stock type from comp cams would be better. Has anyone every checked them? I have to run the stock type, but I don't where it says I'd have to have a factory number on them.
I've always used the floating piston pins on race engines so I may look into using them on the rockers too. Right now I'm just trying to get as much info as possible together before I start my next project. I guess next step is to see if I can get a good set of aftermarket stock type rockers. Looking through the mopar book for ideas when I saw the bushed and unbushed just surprised me. I'm used to using the aluminum rollers myself.
