Gripe power steering blues

Howdy all, have a quick one on power steering pumps. My car is a 71 sm block with the original(type) power steering pump. It works great, no leaks, and makes the tires turn . The problem is when I smak the go pedal hard from a dead stop or 10 mph or under roll it lets of the the most awefull squeel. WHat can I do to fix this. If I wanted to pull out `slow I'd buy a ferd.

Sounds like the belt's just slipping. Check the tension, if it's okay the inner surface of the belt may be glazed. Easy enough to replace.

Also make sure that there is no paint on the pulleys too. ( where the belt rides )
This was a tech. service bulletin for the dealerships from mopar.

All the things the guys said are what makes belts squeel. If the pulley has paint on it or it is glazed, hit it good with a scuff pad. Also check to see that the pulleys line up with each other. I had that problem but I used to throw the belts also. Great for cooling/charging and steering. Good luck.

Does it do the same thing in "N" when you smack the throttle?
If so check the alternator belt....sometimes those squeals are hard tell from which belt there coming.
