Default Tachometer Question

I tried to hook a dwell/tachometer up to my car so I could check the rpm's and timing curve. I hooked one side of the meter to the negative side of the coil, and the other side to ground. After 2000 rpm's the meter goes to zero and will no longer read the r's. It works fine on my friends 65 Mustang with points ignition. By the way, I have a 73 Duster v-8 with electronic ignition. Is the hook up different on an electronic ignition??

The connections are the same. Make sure you are getting a good connection, and make sure the wires on the coil are not reversed.

That's something I was thinking as well.

You may have the primary wires to the coil backwards.(not the meter backwards, the coil itself) The car will run that way, it just makes for some wierd firing patterns.
