Default SB damper on B block?

Is the snout of a 383 crank a different size than a 340? would a neutral balanced SB FluidDamper fit a 383? I got nothing when it comes to B/RB's

Good question, but I don't know?
I think the timming marks will be in the wrong place if that matters.

it doesnt matter, neither does the pulley alignment since that was way off on the SB. Im going to a big block and want to save my damper if at all possible. I know the crank slingers were the same, im thinking the length of the snout might be different?

The oil slinger behind the front seal is the same for all V8's, this means the crank snout is the same diameter and the bolt is the same so the only difference would be the length of the snout.
I suspect it's the same.

The bolts are not the same. The sb uses a longer bolt. You can't use the fluid dampner on an external balanced engine,so it wont work period.

dwc43 is right.
the bolts are longer.
However the big block cranks were drilled and taped deep enough to except the longer bolt ,from the factory.
With no mods required.
That and the flex plates are the only hardware I `am aware of that is interchangeable.

I did it several years ago. The snout of the balancer must be shortened(don't remember how much). If both are internal balanced it is fine. The timing marks are off if interchanging the balancers.

Ok so the snout is shorter on a BB That is OK. As for the balance, the 383 I got is neutral balanced from a crank shop. So I cut down the SB and it'll work, great! As for the bolt length, C'mon..these are bolts, you are not going to let the length of a bolt hold you back, are you?

Suppose you are right. Without the right bolt it'll never go on. So youll have to either get the right one or improvise.
