Holley--gas dissapears when set a day
I have just put a Holley 600 on my 318 and for some reason the thing will not start right away like the 500 I took of it, would the gas be leaking somewhere, or is it evaporating out the vent. I am just wondering where to look when I check it out. thanks

cageman...
Does the Holley have an electric choke, or is it the 1850 series? Did you check the float level before install...or set it since? Mopar_Maniac |

do you have an electric or mechanical fuel pump?
personally i love my electric. if the carb drains from sitting off the motor for a while, i turn the pump on, wait a couple of seconds and it fills...no problem... good luck! |

Its an 1850, And I have a mech fuel pump, Could it be draining back, it just doesnt make sense to me. I was wondering if maybe it could be draining into the intake side, I just rebuilt it, and it has no external leak.

I have the same problem with a TQ. I've tested it and have not found any leaks. Maybe the gas is boiling? I don't see how it is possible for the gas to drain back into the tank. The needle valve is above the float level. So the only places the gas can go is out of the carb onto the engine, out of the carb into the engine, or turn into vapor.
I'm considering a heat shield. |

In looking at a cutaway of a 4150/60 the only tube that discharges under the fuel bowl level is the constant idle discharge tube. It is the tube that feeds the tiny ports above and below the butterflys. Is is not supposed to siphon because of the idle air bleeds. If they are blocked though, you could have a siphon condition. Also the power valve is under the fuel level and all that is inbetween the fuel and the manifold vacuum is the diaphragm, may want to check it. One more place is the accelerator pump diaphragm. Put a piece of paper that has some spray paint on it. Any gas dripping onto that overnight will discolor the paint even if the fuel evaporates. Most of my Carters would dry out in a week, and they have no gaskets below the fuel level.

It's not uncommon for Holley bowl and metering block gaskets to shrink and allow fuel to leak into the power valve chamber and then to the intake manifold.
This leakage occurs below the butterflies so it isn't obvious when looking down into the carb throat. |

hmmm, I just rebuilt it and I do remember that the little gasket that seals the power valve had a ripple in it and I used it any way, Ill check it.
