Default alternator shorted

What would have caused the alternator to short.I have an inline fuse between the ballast resistor and the voltage regulator,(I had this happen before, the alternator shorting)today I was in the car revving the engine a few thousand rpm,the interior light blinked the voltmeter dropped to 12 volts,I checke the fuse blown, try another fuse blown, new regulator and alternator everthing is fine, voltmeter back at 14plus volts. The the last time this happened the wires in the harness burned, thus the inline fuse.
All the wiring is new in this 67 Barracuda,is there something I'm missing???

i had this happen just before a street .... race, almost had to pay no-race $$$$ couldn't find the problem.....it was the battery wire from the alternator shifting around and just touching the front of the block when i was running hard!(taking off)
