ideas on a stroker motor
is building a 400 with a 440 crank (ie 447 ci)going to make a big differance in a 4 wheel drive truck,if so which rods are the best to use and where is the best place to buy the pistons?also the truck has 4.56 gears and 38 " tires with a sm 435 4 speed tranny
any help and ideas would be appreacited thanks |

If you search through the threads you'll find this topic has been discussed a hole lot.
The resulting displacement is a 451 cid when a .030" over 400(bore 4.372") is stroked to 3.75". I would think with a high torque application, like the one you've got, you'd be just as well off to stick with the 440. I think a .030" 440 is about 446 cid. The main benefits of a 451 over a 440, are generally thought to be : 1)The fact that the b engine gives you a little more clearance for headers ect.(since it's narrower) not a big deal on a truck 2)the rotating mass of the engine is nearly 6 lb's lighter. At 5000rpm that's a whole lot of weight. Again, I don't think that this is much of a benefit for a truck engine The pistons can be seen at www.kb-silvolite.com |

thanks dave for the info and the link, the reason i was planning on using the 400 block is that my 440 block is junk, has crack in the valley(to many rpm's and a broke rod i guess)i also plan on a body swap after the first of the year so the b series block will fit the dakota engine bay better i hope

Use the 440 rods if you they're any good. KB pistons for a low speed motor, Diamond or JE forged pistons for a higher performance motor. Put a Performer RPM manifold and a Mopar Performance .528 solid lift cam in there and you'll be ripping up the pavement. Use Edelbrock heads if you can afford them.

AndyF...shame on you...MP cam??? you know better than that....you live almost next door to me and you haven't learned yet?
I guess I'm going to have to go and get a profile sheet on one of these MP cams and try to scan the graph and show you Guy's how poor the quality is on these things compared to a Racer Brown stick. Just because it says Mopar on the box...doesn't make it the best, remember that technology is left over from the Direct Connection days of the 60's and 70's...the world has come along way since then....ask Dick Landy... |

Does racer brown have a website?
Regardless of brand, doesn't .528" seem a little much for a truck application? |
