Default StRaNgE street strip car?

I'm looking at a few posssibilities for a street/strip car. I have a fresh 2X4bbl 440 engine and trans in my Coupe that needs a new home, so I was looking at a few cars and wondering what made more sense than not.

1958 Plymouth station wagon- A little on the heavy side?
1962 Plymouth Fury- anybody know the weight of these? My books list a 3100 pound shipping weight, but it seems like it should be a godd 500 pounds heavier than that?

What's a good WEIRD street chassis, that can be built for basically peanuts?
We wanna hit the Street Legal drags at Mission!!

Marc! Where do you guys come up with these cars. Either one is perfect.
The wagon would have great weight transfer and be an awsome site.
As for weight of the '62 , that is probably with a bent six or 318 with no options, and dry weight, not curb weight.

PS. If you don't want the '62...................................

I actually stumble on more cars than might be believed. I come across more "mainstream" cars, but that's not MY taste. I just passed on a 1964 Plymouth 2 door hardtop for $5000 Canadian, if you are REALLY looking for a car, email me, and I'll send you the pics!

The 62 we are going to look at closely tonight.
I passed on a 62 Plymouth with a roller cam 392 Hemi, a cage, two NEW Edelbrock 750 carbs on a Weind 2X4 intake, and a bunch of older go fast goodies. The car was for sale a little over two years ago, for $3500 Canadian. The engine was worth more than the asking price?

The 58 Wagon was actually TWO 58 wagons, they were on Ebay, and sold for $2500 US.

The weight given for the 62 was listed as a V8 car. They had the 62 6banger listed at 2900 pounds. Sounds a little optomistic?

I'm thinking of throwing an A body big bolt pattern rear in it, and widening the wheel tubs/relocating the springs. Maybe dog-dish hubcaps, or???

Do the B body 440 headers fit in the 62? We had a 63 and they fit, I would think the front subframes are close, if not the same? I have Sanderson block hugger headers if it's unreasonably tight?!?!

Since many new cars are shipped by rail and the railroad charges by the pound, it behooves the car makers to cheat a little on the "shipping weight" to save some shipping costs.
I doubt if any '62 Fury came close to 3100 lbs, I'd say 3400-3600 (depending on drivetrain/options) would be more realistic.
The '58 wagon might tip the scales at 4000 plus.

I had a set of CPPA big block headers in my '64 Savoy which were supposedly built for those cars. My buddy had a '62 Dart (same as a Ply.) and I couldn't see any difference. They also had the same motor mounts.

Yes if you get a chance send some pics. My buddy is looking for a new project.

I sent you a couple pics.
Pretty impressive car for stumbling upon while driving to work? It even looks better in person!
I'll take pics of the '62 tomorrow if I can, just in case I don't bite. I saw the car ten years ago and was impressed then! I think it's half the price of the 64, or thereabouts.
