Question Head porting

Need some info about porting my 340 X heads. If anyone has a good article or a web page i,d like to see it. Hope to gain some cheap H.P. without making paper weights out of my head's.

Be careful!!! more heads are screwed up by first time porters than you would believe.

Unless you have a flow bench and/or plenty of experience I woulf just do a gasket match and combustion chamber polish.

I have to agree with cuda on the first part. I've junked more than one head. But I also learned from it.
I really don't like telling someone not to do the head porting on their own. There's lots of good and bad info available.
Here's the rules I follow.

1. If you're under any kind of time constraints....... don't even start.
2. You must have the equipment: end grinder, carbide cutters, stones and buffing rolls.
3. Stay with a good bowl job. Most of the performance gain is here along with a good valve job.
4. Make templates up to help keep all chambers the same.
5. If in doubt about how far to cut , you've gone fare enough.
6. Again. TAKE YOUR TIME!

It is reccomended that you paractice on a junk head maybe one thats cracked! Will help tremendously! It will set limitaions also. Just try to blend everthing in in the bowl area! Were the guide boss hump is! Blend the throat of the bowl with the seat also! blend the short side in...............oh be carefull not much can be done there...............water right beneth it prob about 1/8 inch!
