Winter Storage Tps
A while ago someone posted a post about storing their cars during the winter. I don't remember who posted it or what it's title was so I am having trouble searching for it. I am looking for tips on indoor storage in freezing temperatures. Particularly covering the car, treating gasoline, pickling the motor, keeping out rodents, using different wheels/tires, and occasional startup tips.

Up here in Canada, the temps in the winter range from 20-30 below or colder.
To store my Duster in my unheated garage: - I change the oil and filter, add stabilizer to the full fuel tank. - I wash and wax the outside, and vacuum the inside. - I don't cover it. - I leave the fully charged battery in. Unhook the pos and neg. - Leave the wheels and tires on the car with proper air pressure, park it on plywood. -Remove the plugs and spray some engine storage goop down the holes. I use OMC (Evenrude) brand. Crank it over for 3 or 4 seconds. In the spring: -Connect the battery terminals. -Check tire pressure and fluid levels. -Remove the plugs, and turn the motor over, not continuously-but in spurts till you see oil pressure on your guage-this prelubes the engine a bit. -Put your plugs back in, wires on AND go kick some CHEBBIES. I have done it this way for years and have had no problems. Mopar to ya, |

That's almost how I do it too... Must be the Canadian way (and who better are there to ask?)
I do charge the battery every month or two tho, sometimes. |

Feel free to ship your cars to me for the winter I'll be more than happy to drive them once a week and keep them warm until you need them back! It never gets cold here in sunny Phoenix AZ

Also.....
.... I remove my braided gas line, leading to my carbs, and hang it up to dry.
If you can, leave the windows open one inch or so. Add moth balls, or similar products, to kept the vermint away. And I usually put it up on blocks Duster_340: Do you park it on a plywood only if it's outside or inside as well? Do you have a dirt floor in your garage? |
