Default Guess the 1/4 Time....

Okay.. I picked up a 72 Challenger Drag Car... recently as I got a smokin deal on it and could not pass up an Ebody. Here's what it came with... (Car is clean as well....)

Race Weight (w/me in it) 3370LBS.
440 (12.5 to 1 TRW SLUGS)...
906 UNPORTED but shaved .050 heads. Claimed a true 12.5:1 compression.
2 " Hooker Super Comps...
Edelbrock TM7 w/ Holley HP 1000 CFM
Unilite Distributor... ProMaster Coil...
Solid cam .514 lift.. unknown duration and unknown why such a small cam? oh well...
727 w/ 4500 Stall B&M 9" convertor. TurboAction Brake.
8 3/4 rear end w/5.13 gears....
31X13 Mickey Thompsons....

I ran it at 1200 ft above sea level....(Topeka Kansas)...

What do you think it should have run???? Any Guesses?

Stock heads? Low to mid 12's if you were lucky. Now what did you really run?
Port the heads on that thing and put a real cam in it.

Good Guesses... I already have a good set of ported 452's and a solid roller cam to put in it...

***** and the WINNER IS.......................... *****

It ran an 11.70.... w/ 1.58 60ft times... and 112.5 is the correct MPH... of course the thing was redlined way before the traps... 5.13 gears a bit much... Good Baseline though!

It looks like 340Duster1 was almost exactly on.. and Cuda66273 has the MPH...!!!!!!

Not a bad car for $4K.... Except all the rubber is rotting out it including the tires... Winter Project time...

Jeeze i can't believe I was 5 hundreths of a mile per hour off on my calculations........It must be late......I Know! I forgot to calculate in the worn out tires...you did't tell me that!

I actually thought the gear would run out just past the 1/2 track and you would sit at 6500 all the way to the stripe......

...so now what? More tire or less gear?

Nice buy!

Less gear... I think that 456's should about do it ...
This 440 just keeps reving... I've had it over 7000 RPM but opt not to do that... I don't know why it didn't throw a rod...must be a MOPAR... For this heavy rotating assembly, this 440 just doesn't need that kind of RPM.. I would think 6500 Redline would be fine and the mods on the motor and the new gears should put it back in the curve...

... Time to get to work...
