They were in police and taxi applications and also vans and trucks from the mid-60's to about 1970. There was talk on the Slant boards a while back about someone reproducing them.

Never seen an adapter for this before. I supose it's to mount a small block 727 to the six. You did know that they made a 727 for the six didn't you? It's very rare and there is no adapter involved. Looks just like the 904 slant tranny at the bell housing but has the 727 kick out around the pan just like the small block tranny dose.

I have a Slant 727 sitting in the back of my truck that I just picked up from 727specialists. Keith said that everything in it is regular 727 except the Slant case. He said he thought he'd find something different, but it was just like a small block trans. They are not exceptionally rare, they were used in a lot of trucks and vans from '70 to '88 or so.

Sorry dshumers I guess they are just rare around here. I've only seen a couple that a friend of mine had. I knew they were the same internally though.

sorry, im gonna have to question that statement.

most 318 trucks (2wd) came backed with a 904 or a variant of it. so why would a engine with less power than a 318 come backed with a power robbing tranny, heavier duty than the ones behind 318s? a stock slant allready has only a little bit of power. adding a 727 behind it only absorbs more of the rwhp and really wouldnt be necessary from the factory. plus it would be more expensive.

Thumbs up 71 Scamp /6 727 & 8 3/4

I was the original owner of a '71 Valiant Scamp that came factory with the 225 /6, 727 Auto and 8 3/4 Rear. It had manual DB and small BP Rally wheels. Actually, I wish I still had it. It was a great commuter rig.

I have never seen another one like it, but, I am proof they existed once.

BTW it was made in Canada.

ya i agree they existed but sstand by my statment that they arent as common as dschumers said they were. think they were used more in 60s than 70s and 80s.

I'll answer your question. One in the '60's they had a slant called the hyper pack. It was factory with Aluminum 4 bbl. intake and split heahers meaning three pipes into one collector and three pipes into another collector. These engines put out small block hp numbers with 11 and 12.1:1 compression. They were used for factory backed drag racers.Saw a set up for one of these engines at our show this year. That guy jerry from j&j in florida had them $1000.00 dollars asking price.
Second answer. The slant creates torque not hp. That's why you see them in trucks with 3.55 to 4.11:1 gears. That's where you will find the other use for the 727. A 904 will live with all the hp you can throw at it, but will lay down when the torque is thrown to it. Torque is what destroies everthing not hp.
So that is where and why you will see a 727 brehind a slant.

Slant case 727's were used from about 1970 until the end of Slant production, which was around 1988. They were used in police, taxi, truck and van applications. I would have to guess that they were used more for severe duty than fear that the engine horsepower would tear them up.

Default slant 727

I have baled lots of slant 727s. One in a dart taxi Two from 68 Polaras. If you want to get one from a truck you gotta look at 3/4 and one tons. I don't care what engine , you will NEVER find a 904 in those. The tricky part, at least in a Dart, will be linkage. Get a slant 904, and put LA904 guts in it. If my souped 340 can't hurt it, you'll be ok. You think a slant is a dog with 904, put 727 and see!
Good luck,Kev

I found a 727 on a slant in a parts yard a few months ago. It was in a 66 or so dodge A100 van ( the small vans ). It also HAD a 3.91 clutch-type sure-grip that sits in my back yard now But the guy wants $250 for the trany ( I think is a little steep ). The place is called "Hidden Valley Auto Parts" in Maricopa, AZ. I've seen a few others, but can't remember where. What are these things worth if I find another?
