I dropped my 91 5th Ave off to the local dealership a week ago to fix a problem with gas leaking from the fuel rail -- it was dripping onto the engine. Probably not safe to drive that way, eh?
Anyway, long story short -- they tell me it'll cost more than $500 to fix -- presuming they can get the part, which they haven't been able to since I dropped it off -- they indicate that the piece is badly backordered (more than 200 queries made thus far). Do I have *any* other options open to me? I'd hate to ditch the car because of this. It has 210K miles on it but it's still running strong. Also, does this sound consistent with what a dealership would charge for this sort of work? I've never had to have a fuel rail replaced before, so I'm unsure on what the parts and labor costs are for this sort of effort. I'm presuming that some injector work needs to be done as well. |

A car with that many miles, I'd go to a junk yard & buy a used one & take it to the dealer to have them install it. Also have them replace ALL of the injector O rings to prevent any leaks.
