Default Torque Converters & Trannys

What is the difference between a lock-up and non lock-up?

Second when we went to install the torque converter at the shop, we didn't get it installed because the torque converter they took off had a little metal plate on the font of the converter, the one I brought in doesn't have the plate. Any ideas?

If you need more info, ask I'll provide you with what I can.

Thanx again guys.

The trans converter is a TCI Breakaway

Part# 890-141300

Default Input shaft

Take a look at the input shaft on your tranny. If there is a small splined shaft inside the main large shaft it is a lock up tranny. One piece shaft its a non-lock up.

Lock up refers to a system that eliminates the slippage of the tork at crusing speeds. Ever notice on the highway your vehicle going threw all gears and once you hit to gear after a couple of seconds the engine drops 2-400rpm . That was your tork locking up.

Default Yeah.

It sucks real bad driven around, to hit third gear @ 30mph, but the exhaust note from my headers all the way out back makes up for it!

Hmm, well then, need to look into a new stall converter. 2400+ needs to be a driver to.

The Coronet is daily driven, everyday rain or shine.

I've even gotten into a car crash with it on the freeway. Got hit by a semi. If ya wanna know, just ask.

Damn, only one lock-up converter, and it's $435. It's also for a 1982-Up Chrysler Torqueflite 904LU. Would that work for me?

The plate on the converter, is the weight for balancing it, to the 360.

3rd gear at 30mph isn't the converter's fault. Something in the kick down(throttle pressure) or governer circuit ,is causing you to have early shift points.

Make sure you dont run the tranny without the kickdown working or hookes up. This will cause premature shifting and clutch slippage. It will burn up quick when you add the heat of a high stall converter. Make sure you add a tranny cooler inline before it returns to your tranny.!
