Default old radio woes...

I installed a factory am/fm radio in my '71 Road Runner over this weekend. It seemed to work except I can't get the speakers to work. I tested the speakers and they are fine. The factory plug has three wires into a "t-shaped' plug. Are these all positive and I have to ground each speaker I hook into the radio? I'm beginning to suspect the radio, while putting out power, may have a flaw. Any ideas would be appreciated...

old radios-its been awhile since I have done much with one of them

power
ground
speakers
you say 3 wires
right +
left +
common ground ?-or could be the dash speaker+ and you ground them all to the main ground/chassis

what colors are the wires?

Default radio woes...

The three wires are purple, black and dark green...I think. I checked all combinations possible on functioning speakers, without any results. I was told, as you suggested, all of the wires may all be positive and you have to ground them at the chassis. I'm going to take the damn thing to an expert.
LOL
Thanks for the help.

try grounding on the chassis-just run one wire to the speaker and the speaker wire just touch to ground,if you feel lucky

altho the black one would be common ground
it could be that the outputs are shot, seen that happen a bit,and easy enuf to accidently do

Default a professional opinion...

I took the radio, car and all, to a professional stereo installer/tech. that has done some excellent work for me in the past. He tested it and determined the speaker plug/jack is bad. It simply isn't putting out from inside the radio.
I have been in a running e-mail conversation with the man from whom I bought the radio, but he seems more interested in asking reduntant questions than anything
I am confident that I did nothing wrong in installing the radio, as I have installed a few radios in my time, and especially since there is a factory power plug that matches the radio, and no other wires except the speaker wires, then it would be rather hard to mess it up.
I guess unless the man from whom I bought the radio wants to do the right thing and refund me some money, then I guess I'm just out
But thanks everyone for the suggestions...
