Have you tried lifting the engine up?

I replied to a thread on this a while ago - search and ye shall fimd.

Anyway, you have to drop the steering centrelink, lift that side of the engine a few inches, remove the starter and worke the header in. With the engine still up, install the starter. Lower the engine and bolt everything up. Now put the centrelink through the header and install. Have fun, and keep some bandaids handy.

it does truly help to remove the torsion bars. hen i did that, removed the strated. and pulled the tie rods and center link, they slipped right in from the bottom. you can also jack the engine up in this state and drop them in from the top. but again, remove te torsion bars.

And I'll say it again ....Make sure you got headers for Powersteering........ or you will never get it in place....i mean never!!!! may also have to unbolt both motor mounts to get the clearance ya need...
