It's easy to "overcam" any engine, especially a small one like a 318. If you don't know the compression, or you know it's stock, (probably around 8.5:1), go with the smaller, (less duration) cam. I'm currently building a 9:1 comp. 318 and am using a Speed-Pro cam with 204@ .050/ .420 lift. Hope this helps.....djs

I have run
In the past thes are the cams I have run in my 318
1 MP# P4529961 292/292 76 108 .508/.508 To big for a 2bbl restricted Oval track engine 2 MP #P4452782 268/276 44 114 .429/.444 ( resto cam ) Worked but rally nothing to wright home about worked well on the short track enduro racing good balance between milage & Performance 3 MP #P4452992 280/280 60 110 .474/.474 Liked it worked well with a dual plane TQ set up piked up .8 in the 1/4 over the resto cam. Dont like it with the single plane setup I ran last year. That said it did pull like a freight train past the 100ft and threw the top end. But died out past 5500rpm. CR 9.8:1 Miself If I were to build a mild street SBD id go with # 3. Gives a nice lope to the idle but very managable vacume. |
