Default Where to find cheap first gen?

Where's the best place to find a cheap first gen Cummins 4x4 (prefer reg. cab 250 or 350)? I don't mind a rough exterior, or wrecked sheetmetal - just looking for a tow truck for my Jeeps. Where is the best place to look? I've been sifting through Autotrader and the TDR classifieds for awhile now with no real luck. Thanks.
Chris

Default Try Here...

There are a few first gen's listed here.

http://dieselram.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi

Scroll down the page to the Classified Ads section, and then below that is the listing for the first gen trucks.

Good Luck! Hope this helps.

Wink Dealership

I am pretty well aquainted with my local dealership. They steered me onto a '91 W250 regular cab truck. It needed a bunch of work and the owner decided to sell it instead of putting more money into it. I stole it!! $850. By the time I get done parting the thing out I should be $250 to $400 ahead and have the engine, the 4 new tires that were on the truck and 3.55 gears. I sold the transmission back to the dealership for $300. They needed some parts off of it for a relative of the owner. New parts were $1200. I am going to advertise the dually stake bed with the drop down 5th wheel ball and receiver hitch for $500. I also have the NP205 transfer case ready for shipment and am looking for $200 out of it. I have the master cylinder and booster sold, the grille, etc.

I say this to show that it does happen. Like a friend of mine said, "Even a blind dog finds a bone every now and then!"

you can try the auto auctions, I see you are in cincinnati too, try the Reading auto auction. a few months ago I was there and saw about 15 Dodges up for sell. 2 were diesels, a '97 went for 12,000 and a '94 had went for 7,200 it had been a work truck but the '97 was really nice. they didn't really have any older trucks but for those prices most people could settle for a newer one alot of the gassers were goin for $,3000-$5,000 my ins. agent bought a 97 2500 5.9 auto 4x4 75,000 miles for $3,200(needed a tranny). the Rams were selling cheap, the Dodges aren't very hot sellers so if they do sell they usually go cheap there.

Thanks, Scott - I actually hadn't even checked there yet. I figured online would have better prices due to more people. I'll check tonight, though - thanks!

Lightbulb Current Offering

The current offering from the local dealer is a mid 90's truck with a blown up V-10. The mechanic thought the guy was wanting to sell the truck without fixing it. I don't know what the guy was asking. The mechanic thought about $6,000. I thought about a quick swap or rebuild and sell job, but I don't have my shop setup for that at this time. Actually, I am working out of my home garage on most of my projects right now(14' by 44'). I am building a 40' by 54' garage/shop with a heated floor. It is going to be up by March/April. Then projects like this can be accomplished during the winter months.
