Laugh I'm starting to build my 'cuda... Suspension first!

Well, I have been doing the basics since I got the 'Cuda into my garage last month. But I ordered new springs/torsion bars right away, and am wondering about shocks. I want my 70 Cuda to handle as good as it can while still being able to be streetable. I'm specifically trying to reduce "plowing" through the turns with my car. Ride quality isn't as important to me as to many, so stiffness is good!

So far, I ordered the stock 440/Hemi rear springs and 1.12" torsion bars from Mopar performance. That's really stiff up front, but I was thinking of a blown 340 or 360, and I want to counter the weight of the turbos/intercooler or supercharger a bit, (Still haven't decided on that issue yet) and I would like to autocross the car every once in a while, just for fun!

So, what shock do you all think would be the best and have the most adjustability?

I'm a litttle leary of the KYB's because I have heard from a lot of people that Bilsteins and Konis are much better. But do they even make shocks to fit 70 E-bodies in those brands? If so, I haven't seen them anywhere... All I see is the KYB's.

And I am also thinking of a front end re-build kit. PST is getting mixed reviews from some, but I haven't heard anyone say anything about Just Suspension or any other manufacturers. Any leads for a newbie?

Thanks everyone!!!

Dave

I did a PST front end and could not be happier with it.
Addco sway bars are next to help comploment the 60's on all 4 corners.

Anti-sway bars are what you need, to prevent the car from "plowing through turns". I would also look into getting a pair of subframe connectors welded in, as well.

Don't forget to spend some bucks on brakes. I have a 71 cuda that I used to SCCA SOLO II race a few years back and most courses are short and tight which put a premium on low end torque and huge brakes.

Koni makes shocks for the E-body, big bucks, but if you have ever felt a set, they're worth it.

I wish Bilstein made em as well, but I think that "merican" cars are beneath their radar. Had a set of Bilstein's on a motocross bike once..unbeleivable!

Ah, so they do make Konis for E-bodies!!! Well, then, my decision is made.

I'll get the Konis!

I do wishj they made Billsteins, though. What great shocks!

And yes, ehosteler, I am planning front and rear sway bars, but I just forgot to list those too...

So I guess this will be my build-up, for now, in order of purchase...

• 1.12" torsion bars
• Stock 440/Hemi Leaf springs
• Front end rebuild kit w/ graphite-poly bushings
• Koni adjustables on all 4 corners
• Front & rear sway bars
• 5-sp tranny (kiesler, I think)
• 8 3/4 rear end
• 360 or 340 block (318 currently)
• 4-wheel disc brakes
• Twin turbos (intercooled & maybe EFI(????)) or supercharger

And of course, I have to repaint the body & redo the interior. Buy new battery, new ignition, etc., etc. And that'll come somewhere in the middle of the suspension redo. right now I have to fix the broken torsion abrs and sagging springs so that I push the car around in order to pull teh engine for the repaint. And while I'm at it, I might as well start purchasing PST kits, and all that stuff... (The tranny & engine & rear end will come later, being the real big-ticket items they are...)

A lot of time, patience, skill, and a lot of money.

And at least I have the time and patience. The other stuff comes more slowly...

Thanks
