Help What determines clutch size?

Since our 66 'cuda is a manual to begin with and the previous owner put in a 904, and since the 904 went out, we are going to swap to a 4-speed. My question is, what determines the clutch size. Only parts I need are flywheel, and the complete clutch setup. So can I use the 10 1/2" or the parts store lists a 9 1/2 and 10 1/2. It has a 273, and the bellhousing is aluminum, not sure what it is out of. Any suggestions on a clutch also? The tranny I is out of a 69 Barracuda.

The normal clutch is 10 1/2. They made 11 1/2 for the trucks like my 4x4 has. You can actually put a 7 1/2 inch clutch in a 10 1/2 pressure plate like we do on the ova, cars we run. It says we must run a stock steel clutch. All they do is look at it not pull it. So we use a lighter weight racing pressure plate and a smaller clutch disc just like everyone else does. Less rotating mass lets it rev quicker.

WOW! Theres a race trick tip. LOL, cool.

The 10 1/2 is indeed standard. Cars also use an 11 inch. (Actuall 10.95) Use the 10 1/2. All the parts are easy to get. Centerforce makes several presure plates to use. MoPar has many stock parts in there catolog.
The flywheel can be had from MoPar as well as other places.
This should be an easy thing for you to do.

Sorry Rumble forgot about the 11. But that's mostly big block and HEMI's any way. Right? I did have a '67 /6 with cast iron bell housing and cast top loader trans with either an 11 or 11 1/2. Can't remember now which one. Had hydro clutch and a pain to replace the cltch set up. Everything weighed a ton. It had a 3.55:1 pos in it too. All factory. I don't know who ordered this long bed like that, but it was tough as nails.

If you been lookin at Advance or Autozone replacement parts your lookin at trouble and junk! Spend the money get the 9 1/2 clutch if small block, and a race clutch. Mcleod, Ram, Zoom, or Center force!
