I have a buddy who heard that J heads will not work on a 318 because of clearance problems. I told him that they put J heads on 318s all day long. Am I wrong are there clearance issues.

There are no clearance problems with putting a "J" head on a 318. Of course your buddy would have to use a intake for a 340.

Not that a 340/360 intake is a must.
I put 2.02/1.60 valves in a "J" head on top of my 318 without ANY problems.

Have a 69 318 with a set of J's sitting on the floor in the garage...ran fine, but the mad idea to throw a 440 in its place finally over came my senses...went from 20 mpg to 6 overnight...

I prefer GPM rating system......My 318 averages about 2 GPM
