Help intake-hood clearance ????

I am getting ready to install a 360 crate motor in a 1971 Dodge Challenger. The installation says to check the hood clearance because this motor has the M1 hi-rise intake. I am also putting the rallye hood on the car which gives additional clearance. Has anyone used this set up and is the clearance okay?? Thanks

mopar155...

Make sure and triple check before slamming the hood shut.

What type air cleaner are you running? There can be different heights in carbs, and air cleaner assy's.

I've seen what happens when someone (my brother) gets in a hurry and didn't bother to check everything before slamming the hood down.

Better to be safe then sorry.

Kind of a backyard solution, but I use a cardboard box and lid cut to the height of the air cleaner. Sit it on the carb(hold cut out to make it fit over the air cleaner ring)... then shut the hood. Open again. if the box got crushed or moved or anything, do some more checking. if it didn't get moved or anything, you should be fine.

~My 2 cents

Default Play Doh

Hers a hint . take a piece of play doh and stick a ball to the top of your air cleaner and sray it with a touch of pam. the slowly close the hood. ans open the hood will compress the play doh and give you an exact measurement.
