Default hood clearance

I have a 74 duster and i converted it from a slant six to a 360 and i am wondering id the hood will close .
i have a performer rpm air gap manifold, a 750 holley carb and a 4 inch tall air cleaner
it appears that the hood will rub even with the air cleaner off and i also would like to know if a 70-72 hood with a dart scoop would fit on my 74

No, I don't think it will clear.
The 70-72 hood will fit if you change the grille, valence panel and bumper as well to the 70-72 style.

No I'm afraid it will not clear. You may clear with a drop base air cleaner and if your not running a carb spacer. When I bought my car it had a small Mr. Gasket 10x2 air cleaner due to the RPM manifold, TQ carb and adaptor. It barely fit under the hood. I opened up the hood and installed the dual snorkle scoop. I now run a Carter AFB with a 1" 4 hole spacer and a 10x3.5 K&N filter with the old Mr. Gasket top and base. It comes up thru the opening partially. Engine breathes alot better. I made my opening 12" but if you go 13" an 11" filter would fit. The 11" might be a tight fit on mine. Here's a pic from the front of mine.

Here's a pic of the scoop. It wasn't hard to install. I don't know why Chrysler didn't make it a factory option on the Dusters. Of course you could get it from the dealer and have them install it but most if not all weren't functional as I remember. Only the Demon/Dart Sports had fresh air openings made into the hood if I'm correct for this scoop.

I'm going to have to go with cuda and 5th on this one. Get out the torch/plasma cutter/tin snips and chip away at the hood. Get a nice circle around your air can. Plop on a big spacer so the filter rises just above the hood. Thats all, no more clearance problems. PS - If you want to be really stylish, cut a 4X6 square somewhere directly over your front belt(s). wink wink.

...always someone with a bigger better idea.......now I'll have to get a plasma cutter to keep up with you guy's....

When I whacked up my original 70# hood I was amazed at the thickness and rockwell rating on the steel.......burned up a couple of blades and that dam sawzall about broke my arm a couple of times. Drilling for hood pins was another story..the support steel under the front of the hood was like titanium!

....of course the new 10# fiberglass unit was like cutting warm butter with a razor blade

I don't remember who made the thing...I got it from Doug Wilson (Another Member)...it's a good piece and I'm extremely happy with it.

It's a pin on...4 pins? will never cut it....I run 8

I have a hood here from a'73 Duster that has a scoop for it. The hole is already cut and a 5" scoop can easily be put on. Make ya a sweet deal on the pair?
