Question MP3 decoder in stock stereo

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew if the single disk player in the 03 Ram 1500 Laramie is able to decode and play MP3 files from a CD. I was also wondering if any aftermarket equipment is able to use the audio controls on the steering wheel ? Thanks

for the decoder in the stock system
seriously doubt it-read your owners manual,if it doesnt mention it then no

for the steering wheel
dont think so,there may be adapter kits for it,but I havent came across any,not saying there is none, sony and others use a wired remote, someone may have made a plug
most that have wanted it usually pull the steering wheel apart, pull the remote apart and adapt the guts for the remote to work in the wheel, putting the sending unit somewhere it will reach the HU,one I saw had it moded in the interior light

Default Still waiting on the truck

I have the truck on order so I can't check the manual. The 6 disc changer is not currently available from the factory and the dealer will install a Mopar changer for about $400.00. I was just asking about the MP3 decoder because if the single disc unit did play MP3's I wouldn't need the changer.

Thanks for the responce and the info on the wheel mounted controls.

The rare few stock stereos that play MP3s are usually sold as a gimmick, the "MP3 edition" etc. I say ditch the changer and the stock stereo and go for an aftermarket MP3 player. I've had one in my car for about 3 years now and I can't live without it. Why would you have a changer? Lazy? well on one MP3 CD, I can fit 12 albums, and I can change all 12 in one go, without going into the trunk, under the seat, etc. They're WAY down in price (<200$ in some cases) And work GREAT. I personally have a blaupunkt San Jose, and recommend it highly.

Good luck.

Morgan
