Default E-Body original converter

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HI
Im not that well updated in the function and theory of those converters!
Was the car equipped with different conv depending on gearratio?

Any diff from factory for R/T or standard cars?

If my original havent been swapped,,what can I expect to find in my 1970 383 R/T with 3.23?

Is it a big loss of performance tuning up the engine without changing the converter or is it just a matter of launch effect?

When in gear and running is it any diff then?

Can I change my rearend to 3.++
without any problem caused by the converter I run today?

Are converters a part thats been worn out by time or power!

Lots of Q,,,maybe you can help me on some of them?
Best R Olle B

Cool

Lotta questions!
1700-2000 stock stall: you only need a high stall if you drag.
Launch
No
No. Increase your gear ratio=increase in performance!
Yes, use redline for long life.

A '70 with a Hi-Po 383 would have originally come with a 10 3/4" converter regardless of gear ratio. This is the same converter that was used behind the 318 and 340. The same basic converter was used behind the Hemi but the Hemi has larger drive bolts.

The factory stall speed spec for this converter behind a 383-4 is 2350 to 2650.

The same converter behind a 318 stalls at 1950 max, behind a 340 it stalls at 2450 max and behind a Hemi it stalls at 2850 max.

Once again this illustrates the fact that the stall speed of any converter depends on the power input.
