Help Rebuilding a 67 440

I have a 440 engine from a 67 New Yorker that I am going to build up and find something such as a dart to drop it into.

I've never done this before, so it will be a learning experience.

Basically, I would like to be pointed in the right direction... Layout how you would do it, money not being a problem, but at the same time not going crazy. I'd be happy with 13s but I'm sure 12s would be 'easy'.

The 67 440 is a great starter motor.

It should have 915 casting cylinder heads, which are (arguably) considered to be the best production big block head. Forged crank, too.

Heads and camshaft are the heart of your engine. If you wan't twelves, you'll need port work, a converter with some stall, fairly steep gears in the rear end, headers, a good intake and carb combo, ect. and a cam to match it all.

Cam's are always a topic of discussion on this board. I'd have to say that after talking to cuda66273, I'm sold on racer brown camshafts. Why you may ask? They are custom ground for your application for about $160. No guesswork, no question of whether your running a cam made for a 350, no settling for the closest cam to what you need. Just the right cam the first time, for a very slight cost difference from an off the shelf cam.

hotrod.com has a buildup on the go where they've thrown a 440 in a dart, with good results. It was a three stage build up. I think the whole project cost 3500 dollars(including the car)

I found the article

www.hotrod.com

click on "car tech"

then "project cars"

The screen then comes up with a meni bar, and a bunch of articles to click on. The two articles are 69 dodge dart project part II and part III

they end up around 12.8 for just under $2000
