Help Electrical bug

Ok, I know how everyone out there hates messing with any type of wire in their Mopars. Please help me out here folks. The other day I get into my Coronet, interior lights come on, I turn the key and let the electric fuel pump warm up for about 15 seconds, start the motor, something goes POP under the hood and the whole car shuts off. All fuses, battery, fusible link, ballast resistor are good. I did the little screwdriver bit with the starter relay but since no juice is flowing I get nothing. Also, the 3 grounds look good as well. With all the symptoms, it sounds like a bad battery but its putting out a solid 12 volts. Hook me up people!!

Thanks,
J-440

Sounds like it's just a loose connection at the battery. You should be able to clean and tighten your terminals and be on your way......

Ausy, no dice bro. I checked the connections and they are all good to go. Even took them off the terminals, WD-40ed them and stuck em back on, no deal. I'm wondering could the voltage regulator be the problem since that "pop" noise came from the passenger side of the motor. Preciate the help people.

If it popped it sounds like your fusable link. It may appear good on the outside but you need to test and see if you have cont. across the wire. Some times they burn up and smoke but some times pop and then they are gone. You might be able to feel the wires and see if there is a breakage. Gone racin has the right idea though start testing at the path of electricity. Let me know some more and the board might be able to hepl more. Also load test you battery and see what the meter reads.

Yeah I checked and replaced the fusible link and still no dice. I see where it connects to the driver side engine harness so the wire is'nt that long. Also, since I have no power to anything, my multimeter is pretty much useless correct? What about the starter wires touching? I had that problem after I moved the battery to the trunk, maybe they've hooked up again? Thanks for the input guys. Be cool.

Lightbulb Be sure to check your Ground

I once had a mysterious starting problem that was finally traced to a loose battery ground-to-engine block cable. A major headache for a while.

The fact that you have moved your battery to the trunk adds to the difficulty of acheiving a complete circuit. Where did you ground the trunk mounted battery?! Is it still a good ground?

Have had intermittent wiring headaches with my 74 challenger. One main cause was the wire leading to the Ammeter in the dash. I had the same exact symptoms: all of a sudden NO JUICE. Looked behind ammeter to find all of the insulation on both the hot and ground wire completely burned away and even melting some other nearby wires! I tore out the dash, replaced the bad wiring and I had juice again. Take a look back there to see the condition of those wires leading to your instruments. Chances are there is something else going on to cause such a meltdown, but its easy enough to see if those wires are burning anything!

Pete, all I did was drill a hole through a rubber plug, inserted the negative cable which was only about a foot and a half long from the post and grounded it to the frame. I'm gonna try again tomorrow. Thanks guys.
