Exclamation FYI: 440 dyno of the heads Edelbrock vs 906's

Seeing the views of the treads on here when talking about the Edelbrock heads compared to stock heads using the much used 906 heads. Also the later 451 with the hardened exhaust seats can and will result in very little power differance, being the 906 does flow a little better at higher lifts. I took the time to plug the flow numbers in for each head. These flow numbers can be had at the mopar muscle web site (906). The edelbrock flow numbers were published in Car Craft magazine 11/2001 by Bob Mazzolini Racing and are out of the box! The engine in question is identical specs with the cam profile from Hughes engine and is the smallest solid that I obtained fro the web page. and is part #(HEV3945BS) dur@.050 239/245.. lift .546/.560 with 1.6 rockers

Edelbrock 440

RPM's H.P (flywheel) Torque (ft.lbs)
2000 192 505
2500 246 517
3000 298 521
3500 351 527
4000 405 532
4500 448 523
5000 474 498
5500 482 460
6000 471 412
6500 444 359
7000 409 307
7500 370 259

stock 906/452 440

RPM's H.P (flywheel) Torque (ft/lbs)
2000 194 509
2500 244 513
3000 289 506
3500 329 494
4000 360 472
4500 363 423
5000 346 363
5500 319 304
6000 282 247
6500 245 298
7000 200 250
7500 155 108

Ok thats 119 HP out of the box in a perfect world. Also even though it did not make much more torque the curve was much more flat and not dropping below 400 ft/lbs after 6000 RPM's. Now you know why 440's even stock ones could pull down a house.

Heres some more engine details that were held constant during the dyno's from engine to engine.

Bore: 4.35
stroke: 3.75
Duel plane intake with 900cfm carb (maybe Demon sizzler's)
small tube headers with open exhaust
10.5:1 compression
same Hughes solid cam

detnation free gasoline (maybe 93 octane with the Edd's heads)
Higher octane fuel for the cast iron head to run maximum timing advance.

If you have any questions please reply

this just reveals that you should not compare results from two different flow benches, and that an engine dyno problam *THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN PROGRAM* is not a god. Those numbers do not make much sence, and are nowhere near the real world results that have been verified in a dyno. On my opinion they are still great heads for the money, but the power differences in moderate engines compared to stock factory engines has rather been in the 40-60 hp range, which is nothing to sneeze at.

I agree with you on the flow benches. As I posted these I knowed they were not postive. There is to many variables at stake. LIKE I said only in the real world. This was merly to so the advantages of the Edelbrock heads. After all these are not real engines. Hope you did not think so!
